Same here, and I only PvE! I don't begrudge the PvPers their fun, and if it publicizes GW and brings more players into the fold, I can't help but think that PvE will benefit, too.

Are you kidding me? We'd all be on the edge of our seats wondering who will ragequit first? Who will go afk first? When will the infamous "noob" be uttered? And how long before someone blames the monk?

On a serious note, I think Gaile was just simply announcing it, it's quite a nice thing too, normally we're stuck with boring ladder locks and during such a period is takes a lot of the fun and competition out of GVG.
I for one am glad, I can imagine that a few guilds who wouldn't normally get silver capes and the likes will do since they have something to compete for here, then again I guess the open season pretty much allowed for that too But I'm currently enjoying this fun season, it is fun!

This game was built primarily for PvP. The game system was built to best accomidate it. It's also not a P2P game, meaning they have limited resources when it comes to updates. P2P MMORPGs tend to cater to PvE and have the funds to make the in-game worlds persistant and ever-changing. This helps prevent the game from stagnating. So, I guess you get what you pay for in that respect. Now, when people say "Go play WoW", what they really mean is "Maybe a P2P MMORPG would better accomidate your gaming-needs"?
To be fair, the "Go play PvP" comments do make a fair point, too. You're eating half of your lunch and asking for more. PvP is basically the true 'end-game' of Guild Wars. PvE is static, think of the chapters as Novels (however badly written). Complaining that you don't get new PvE content is a little short-sighted as that's the bulk of the content in the new chapters.
Why is PvE static? Because it's not dynamic. Why is PvE not dynamic? Because it's not a persistant in-game world. Why is it not a persistant in-game world? Because GWs isn't a MMORPG.
Dispite what people say, GW is no more of an MMORPG than Diablo II. When you compare the two, towns and outposts in GW act pretty much just like chat channels in Diablo II. They both lack one of the defining elements of a MMORPG, the persistant in-game world.
I'd just like to remind you that it's all part of the same game. Story Mode, which everyone should play at least once IMO, and PvP, the core* of the game. The whole PvE/PvP animosity is really quite pathetic.
*I mean that almost litterally. Since all the new chapters are selling 'Core' + 'Prophecies/Factions/Nightfall'. 'Core' basically being the game mechanics and the Battle Isles.
Okay, I'm going to shut up now.

Very well thoughtout post, i agree completely. (playing both high level PvE and high level PvP)

As funny as this is to read, one must wonder if the hardcore PvPers are thinking when they "mean" statements like that. I mean, seriously, Anet rescently pushed the sales of Factions (an admited heavy PvP game) by adding a materials storage (a highly requested PvE feature). Anet then admited saying that the feature to content switch was needed to sell more copies. So if Factions is PvP heavy and is needing help, we can assume the majority of sales is coming from PvE then that would mean those championships and awards for PvP are being funded by a great deal of PvE buyers. This would also mean that GW would have to resort to heavy sponsorship for future championships or stop all together if non-thinking players keep trying to send players of defering opinions and playstyles to other games. An obvious and admitted assumption; but it makes me wonder if people are even capable of long term thinking when the "Go play WoW" is the first thing they say while "trying to defend" Anet; especially when Anet needs no defending... they are adults after all.

First I love this game with all my hart. but, I would hardly call 2(TWO) Guild Wars World Championships each with a prize of 100k of cold hard real spendable money and with this "Fun Ladder Season" with 16 signed copies of Guild Wars Prophecies or Guild Wars Factions and 16 complete sets of skill pins going to the winners a bone.
think you for your time.
oh yea! I do SO love this game.

Check out the goods on the website, and hope to see your guild on the ladder!

Remember when candy bar companies came out with the "Fun Size" bars. In corporate lingo "Fun" tends to mean less. Thanks for insulting our intellegence once again Gaile.

Why in the world do you have "Proffesor" under your name. You are obviously a PvP uber hater. You are useless in these threads.

LOL thats actually true. Those fun sized snickers are "bite size" ;p
however....
Do you play PvP?
Do you play GvG?
Do you know what fun is in GvG?
Do you remember what the downtime was like between seasons last time with a locked ladder?
Why do you think they consider an open ladder between seasons fun?
Maybe...because it is?
